Traveler Menu FAQ

What is Traveler Menu?

Traveler Menu is a web app for travelers. You photograph a restaurant menu abroad, and it lists each dish with a translation in your language, the price, and size or portion notes. You choose what to eat, and it builds an order screen in the local language that you show to restaurant staff.

Do I need to install an app?

No. Traveler Menu runs in the mobile browser at travelermenu.com on iPhone and Android. You can add it to your home screen.

How is it different from Google Translate or Google Lens?

Google Lens translates text in place on the photo. Traveler Menu organizes the menu into a list of dishes with prices and portion notes, lets you pick dishes and quantities, and creates a clean order card in the staff’s language. It is built for ordering, not just reading.

Which languages does it support?

The app interface, translations, and order screens support 29 languages, including English, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese, French, Italian, Spanish, German, and Arabic.

Is it free?

Yes. The free plan includes 3 menu scans in a 48-hour period. For a trip, you can buy a one-time travel pass for 1 to 4 weeks with no auto-renewal: Traveler is $4.99 for one week (40 scans per week) and Pro is $7.99 for one week (100 scans per week), with lower weekly prices for longer trips. Passes add higher-resolution analysis, no ads, and the original text beside translations.

Does it work without a photo?

Yes. You can type menu items manually to build an order screen without using AI analysis.

Are my menu photos stored?

Traveler Menu does not store menu photos or analysis results in its own database. Photos are sent to the Google Gemini API for recognition and translation. Do not upload photos that include faces, IDs, or payment details.

Can I rely on it for food allergies?

Use it to communicate, not as a guarantee. AI can misread menus, and recipes and cross-contact vary by restaurant. Always confirm allergens with staff.
